St Crispin's is a mixed comprehensive school, established over 50 years ago, with some 1,050 pupils. They are planning to become a Specialist Status School of Technology.
Alex said, "We are linked with Costain as part of its Building Awareness programme and we're the only school in the Thames Valley to have this connection. St Crispin's has aspirations to become a technology college. We've always had strengths in maths and science and a number of our students have gone to university to study engineering. There's a national shortage of civil engineers and Costain is interested in our aspiration to become a technology college and develop technology in the Thames Valley. This is a starting point - it will give staff the chance to go on placements with Costain so they can make their teaching more relevant, allow us to network with the other schools so we can share ideas, and enable us to see a real live site in action".

The best part of my placement was going out on site and seeing how things are put together. It has all been completely new to me. Learning how concrete is tested was good. |
