Building Awareness aims to raise Young People's awareness of the Construction Industry through direct involvement and partnership with a number of schools across the UK. Costain and its partners are committed to providing resources and funding to support events and activities, work placements, sponsorship and much more to give students and teachers the opportunity to find out about what we do.

Building Awareness is linked to the Costain business strategy. It brings together all industry stakeholders - professional institutions, schools, training boards, the business supply chain, and Costain's own staff - together with a common purpose. To reverse the shortfall trend by lifting young people's sometimes inaccurate, and unfavourable perception of construction as a career.

"I was attracted to Civil Engineering as a profession that offers a diverse range of experiences and opportunities. My last placement was Gracechurch Street; this was an office development undergoing initial stages of construction. Throughout the placement I was on site and in the office - this is an advantage of the profession - you are able to change your work environment. Costain's work placements are customised to suit my interests and this has strengthened my passion for Civil Engineering, where I have gained valuable knowledge to further support my studies later in University"
